Around Kolkata there are many famous forests or wildlife areas or destinations, where you can visit such as elephant expedition through the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. Sunderban is the most well known forest which is popular for the Royal Bengal tigers. Botanical Gardens, the place of enormous banyan trees situated at Shibpur, near Kolkata.
Sunderbans:
It is named after its sundari treesAnd it is a World Heritage Site which must be visited by the wild lovers because of its famous wild life. Crocodiles, cheetahs, wild boar, Rhesus monkeys, cormorants, curlews, Olive Ridley turtles etc. are found here but it is especially famous for the Royal Bengal tigers. One thing is important to visit here that is visitors should be permitted before visiting.
How to get there: Take the train or bus from Calcutta to Canning, and then hop on to the motorboat to Sajnekhali.
Shibpur:
The Botanical Gardens at Shibpur, on the pool of the river Hooghly, are famed for a 250-year-old banyan tree, nearly the largest of its kind in the world. The Gardens are over two centuries getting on and over 35,000 fruit trees and flowering plants. It also has a exceptional album of orchids.
How to get there: State and tourist buses are available from Kolkata to Shibpur.
Jaldapara:
It is situated in Jalpaiguri district and is famous for the rhinoceros and it can be said that it is the home of rhinoceros. The tall elephant grass endow with the perfect home for the rhinos. The sanctuary also has provisions for elephant safaris and in winter, performs as the home for a diversity of migratory birds.
How to get there: Take the train to Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri and motor the rest of the way.
The Dooars:
It is to be found in the middle of the forests of northern West Bengal, and watered by the Teesta, the Dooars are famous for the wildlife buff. When you reside at a forest cottage or lodge, you can visit the fortification at Nalrajar Garh and Buxa Duar, the Jalpesh temple etc.
How to get there: Take a train from Kolkata to Siliguri, and then cover the remaining distance by road.
