Kolkata – The City Of Joy and The City of Heart The capital city of West Bengal is Kolkata and this place is also famous for festive colors.  The place has been named the “City Of Joy” because of its lively mood and spirit.

Howrah Bridge has given a new appearance to this city.  This bridge brags about great engineering techniques applied in the early 20 the century. The well constructed bridge has a length of 450 m. This has been awarded as one of the busiest bridges across the world through which around 100000 vehicles pass and a large number of people move about.

While planning to tour to Kolkata, you must visit the Kali Mandir dedicated to Goddess Kali, the goddess of destruction.  The name of the old village Kalikata came from this temple and later it gave the city its name.

Victoria Memorial:

The marble structure building is an eye-catching site to the viewers.  Of late the building has been converted into a museum where you can see a collection of a record things belonging to the period of Raja-Maharaja. Indian Museum

This museum was built in the year of 1874. It is one of the oldest museums in India that unfolds some awesome ancient collections. The entrance of this museum has got the three faces of lion as a national symbol of India.

Belur Math, was established in 1899. It was designed so as to make it a church, temple and mosque all together. The place is also famous for the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission and it is located in the north area of Kolkata.

Another auspicious occasion is Saraswati Puja celebrated in the month of January-February. This festival also bears the true colors of Indian culture and tradition here.
