Jhargram, 8th May: The body of a local committee member of the CPI(M)’s Lodhasuli branch was found this morning at Naharia village under Jhargram policde station near National Highway six.
SP, West Midnapore, MK Varma said Maoists were suspected to be behind the murder.
About 40 to 45 suspected Maoists came to Sudhansu Maity’s (45) house in a mini-truck well past midnight. They dragged him out of his house and then dumped his bullet-ridden body in a bush near the Mumbai road. The body was recovered this morning and sent for post-mortem.
Dahar Sen, a member of the district CPI(M) secretariat, said the withdrawal of combined security forces from Lodhasuli in the recent past had caused increased activity of the Maoists in and around Jhargram, leading to seven murders in the past week.
