Prices of diamonds to ascend by 10 pc

Kolkata, 8th May: The prices of diamonds are expected to increase by almost 10 per cent globally, according to noted diamond merchant Harshad R Mehta.

Explaining the reasons for the price rise, Harshad R Mehta, Chairman, Rosy Blue (India) Private Limited said, ”The miners across the globe are mining less to increase the life of the mines resulting in the increase in the prices.” Speaking on the occasion, Prasad Kapre, Co-founder FICCI said, ”Kolkata being a jewellery hub we expect more people to participate this year and have good business.” He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day long second edition of the East India Jewellery Show 2010 here today.

The exhibition, showcasing jewellery crafted in loose diamonds, gold, silver, jadao and kundan, included jewellery houses from Amritsar, Bangalore, Thrissur, Mumbai, Jaipur, Meerut, New Delhi, Noida, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Canada, Italy and Thailand.

The participants included names like Thai Designer, Senco Gold, Ritu Gems, Senco Gold, Mangal Gems, Laxmi Dia jewels Pvt Ltd, Quantam, Indian Gem and Jewellery Pvt Ltd, Silverline, Jusra, Jewel Ace.
